GCN Health Foundation leads the WASH initiative in Nigeria and Africa, improving access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices to enhance public health and well-being particularly in hard-to-reach areas as well as conflict environments. At the core of WASH intervention programs, HHF plays significant roles in:

Baseline Assessment

• Conduct a detailed assessment of current WASH infrastructure, practices, and health outcomes in target communities at both national and sub-national levels
. • Identify priority areas for intervention based on needs and gaps identified.

Community Engagement

• Establish partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to foster community ownership and participation.
• Conduct community consultations to understand specific WASH challenges and design contextually-appropriate solutions.

Infrastructure Development

• Invest in the construction and rehabilitation of water sources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion infrastructure.
• Ensure the sustainability of infrastructure by incorporating maintenance plans and training local technicians.

Behavior Change Communication

• Develop tailored behavior change campaigns focusing on handwashing, safe water storage, toilet usage, and proper hygiene practices.
• Utilize various communication channels such as community meetings, radio programs, and posters to disseminate key messages.

Capacity Building

• Train community health workers, volunteers, and local stakeholders on WASH principles, monitoring techniques, and maintenance of facilities.
• Build the capacity of local authorities to enforce WASH regulations and standards.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Establish monitoring mechanisms to track progress, measure impact, and identify areas for improvement.
• Conduct regular evaluations to assess the effectiveness of interventions and make data-driven decisions.

Partnerships and Advocacy

• Collaborate with government agencies, academic institutions, INGOs, and private sector organizations to leverage resources and expertise.
• Advocate for WASH policies, regulations, and funding at the local, regional, and national levels to promote sustainable WASH practices
